First I want to congratulate you – we’re a month in to Personal Development 101!
This week we’re going to talk about an important part of what I call analysis driven personal development.
Briefly, analysis driven personal development is the concept that we can truly improve ourselves through a few different strategies – analyzing the data from research studies, analyzing how other people have achieved their dreams – and introspection, analyzing ourselves and the way we are.
This particular exercise is something I’ve done a few times in my life, and it has really opened my eyes to a number of different things. Everytime I’ve done it, it has had a profound impact on my life and my decisions going forward. I’ll be sharing some examples with you in the coming days.
For now, let’s discuss this powerful exercise, and one that many readers have called the most important module in personal development 101.
In this exercise, we’ll track how we spend our time.
Exercise 5
- Where Do You Spend Your Time? This week the exercise is deceptively simple – track where you spend your time every day. You may be protesting saying – “Hey, wait a second, we already had an exercise where I was supposed to remove low value activities to make time for my goals. I know where my time goes!”
Well, lets give it a shot anyway =).
I wanted to wait until we were a good ways into the course to so that you had some time to get into a groove -and now, I hope you do see some positive results from the personal development changes going on in your life. Still, I think you’ll be a little surprised when you do this activity – it certainly opened my eyes.
One thing I want to stress: it’s critical that you pick a good way up front to track your time, and do it consistently. You can carry a notepad with you, or track it in your smartphone, but do it consistently – not at the end of the day! To help with that, inspired by Randy Pausch, here’s a worksheet to help you track your time. Please download it to your computer and open it. Click to download it now – Module 5 – Track Your Time (PDF).
So your mission – read your life purpose daily, focus on weekly progress towards your goal, make time for it every week. Use start pages to focus yourself, and set 3 MITs every day. And for this week – track your time =). I know it sounds like a lot, but I’m hoping these small changes are sinking in.
By the way, is this course going too fast? Too slow? Hit the reply button =)
Remember: it’s very important to track your time throughout the day, and not just guess at the end
Talk to you soon! Have a great day!
Sincerely,
Sid Savara

P.S. Some people have emailed me and mentioned through this course they’ve really grown, and they felt that their biggest block was defining their dreams and life purpose. It’s different for everyone – for some people, they already knew and didn’t need to do the exercise, while others may need more time. Depending on where you are in your life, if this is a sticking point that’s holding you back in your personal development, I highly recommend you click here now to check out what I have to say about a valuable resource: Reclaim Your Dreams.
