Three Types Of Bloggers

Let’s first discuss if this free guide is right for you. I want to discuss three types of bloggers:

  • The Soapbox Blogger
  • The Single Blog Blogger
  • The Professional Blogger

The Soapbox Blogger

I just want to have my own blog, somewhere, so I can post my thoughts.  I don’t care about domain names, plugins, heavy customization etc.

If all you want is a free blog, a soap box to have your voice heard, go to WordPress.com and sign up. It is an excellent choice for the amateur blogger who wants to get their words out there with minimal hassle.  You get a choice of some great default themes, plugins, and they handle all the backend work for you.  You really don’t need to go through all this work.  I recommend, however, if you plan on building a serious blog and want to do any serious customization you consider the second option – it’s really no additional work, and gets you off on your own domain.  You *cannot* make money off your blog at WordPress.com, and if you ever do choose to leave, you’ll have to pay every year in order to have your old posts point to your new home.

The Single Blog Blogger

I just want to be a blogger, right away, on one domain.  I may want to expand later.

If all you want to do is set up a single WordPress or Movable Type (or don’t know/just don’t care) blog at www.yourdomain.com, I recommend you head on over to LivingDots, the WordPress hosting experts.  They’ll take care of everything and get you on your feet right away.  They’ll help you register your domain, install all the software you need, keep your blog updated with the latest software and give you all the technical support you need to hold your hand through everything.

You can always come back to this guide later and add more plugins etc to your blog.  If this is you, just bookmark this guide and be sure to check back in a month. All those burning questions you have about themes, plugins, traffic statistics, etc will then be answered – and you’ll be in a position to act on this information.  This is also an excellent option if you have a current blog and want to move itthey’ll move your blog free of charge.

The Professional Blogger

I want it all. I want a blog now, I want to learn how to install everything, I want to know the next steps, and I want full control over everything from the start.  I may want to set up additional blogs for myself and friends in the future, and I want to have the knowledge to do that.

Perfect.  This guide is for you.   If you want a blog with your own domain and full control, this guide will walk you through it step by step.
