The word “secret” is batted around a lot – and I’ve recently received a lot of people asking for the “secret of success.”

Is there a secret to success? I don’t think so – well…at least not in the traditional sense of the word “secret.”

Ever have one of those days where you wake up, and the whole day you just can’t get your mind off an event that night? This is a story about one of those days.

All day I waited – waited and watched the time tick by; waited for 8 p.m.

The usher scans my ticket and I walk in – up the stairs, to the balcony, row L, seat 15.

My heart is pounding, and everyone in the arena is sitting on the edge of their seat, their eyes focused with anticipation at the piano on stage.  It’s almost showtime.

Suddenly the lights go down – and the whole place erupts in cheers.

Question: Have you ever heard the expression “the long pole in the  tent?”

Do you know what that means?

The long pole in the tent is the pole that holds everything up.   

So why does that matter to you? It’s a metaphor

If you aren’t making progress on your goals, if you aren’t getting what you want out of your life – you can usually isolate it to the “long pole” obstacle that’s holding everything up.

The most common question I find is actually particular breed of question, and it goes a little something like this:

I want to (do something very important to me),
but (I am waiting for something to happen).  
How can I (make progress on the thing I really want to do)?

Do you sometimes stress trying to make time to finish everything by the end of the day?
