What would you do if you were not worried about the outcome – if you didn’t care whether you failed, succeeded, or what other people thought?  When I was young, I had no concept of what I was capable of – and I assumed I was capable of anything.

With that irrational, unfounded belief system – I dreamed solely based on what I desired. I never considered anything to be out of reach for me.

Unfortunately, such belief in my abilities turned out to be a recipe for failure in the short term …. and a life lesson that has stuck with me in the long term.

Ever have one of those days where you wake up, and the whole day you just can’t get your mind off an event that night? This is a story about one of those days.

All day I waited – waited and watched the time tick by; waited for 8 p.m.

The usher scans my ticket and I walk in – up the stairs, to the balcony, row L, seat 15.

My heart is pounding, and everyone in the arena is sitting on the edge of their seat, their eyes focused with anticipation at the piano on stage.  It’s almost showtime.

Suddenly the lights go down – and the whole place erupts in cheers.

Question: Have you ever heard the expression “the long pole in the  tent?”

Do you know what that means?

The long pole in the tent is the pole that holds everything up.   

So why does that matter to you? It’s a metaphor

If you aren’t making progress on your goals, if you aren’t getting what you want out of your life – you can usually isolate it to the “long pole” obstacle that’s holding everything up.
