I'm very happy that it is working out so positively for you =). I know what
you mean about getting too excited in the evenings - I try to stop myself
sometimes from getting too wound up in things I'm working on late in the
evening too, but I'm not always successful! =)

Hi Sid,
I wanted to report back and give you a huge thanks! After reading your article and “sleeping on it” I have rearranged my schedule and feel far more productive and relaxed. I now work on my “projects” in the morning and after the kids go to bed I do some of my rote job-related work. Not only has this increased my productivity re: my projects but it has also increased my ability to unwind in the evening and sleep better. I get so excited about my projects that I was having trouble turning my brain off to sleep at night. Thank you, thank you, thank you – absolutely brilliant suggestion.

balancing that goes on with 2 young kids, a full time job and two projects.
I have a hard enough time balancing my full time job, this website, and my
hobbies

Hi Sid, This is a very interesting and thought provoking article for me. I work full time, am a mother of 2 young kids (2 & 4yrs), and have 2 entrepreneurial “projects” on the side. To try to fit it all in I have established a routine where I work on my “projects” after the kids go to bed. And I start my workday at the office at 7am so that I can be home by 4:30pm so I can spend time with my children. I certainly agree that I am most productive a hour after I wake up (6am). Thus, I may have to try your suggestion somehow … I will have to sleep on it.

Getting up early isn't easy ;) I'm not always consistent about it myself,
though I do try to be.

Your post reaffirmed an experience that I had during the first week of this month – right after the holidays: I'd listen to my body and go to sleep at 8:00 pm, so I could get my 10 hours of sleep. I know it might sound like a lot, but I have a medical condition for which I need to take medication every night, and if I have less than 10 hours, I'm not well the next day.
Another factor is that my husband works graveyard shifts and usually comes home right after 6:00 am.
So, by going to sleep at 08:00 pm, I not only found that it was nice to be up by the time he gets home, but also found that I had so much more energy to do things for which I'd normally be too tired during the evenings – including dishes, laundry…
And it gives me time to have a healthy breakfast, instead of waking up in the morning, showering and leaving for work.

Hi Usman,

You are right – but sometimes, we don't think of time in the same way as we think of money. We sometimes forget time has a value, and we let it be spent for us – instead of spending it on what we want =)
