What Dreams Will Die With You?

“Imagine if you will being on your death bed – And standing around your bed – the ghosts of the ideas, the dreams, the abilities, the talents given to you by life.

And that you for whatever reason, you never acted on those ideas, you never pursued that dream, you never used those talents, we never saw your leadership, you never used your voice, you never wrote that book.

And there they are standing around your bed looking at you with large angry eyes saying we came to you, and only you could have given us life! Now we must die with you forever.

The question is – if you die today what ideas, what dreams, what abilities, what talents, what gifts, would die with you? ”
Les Brown

If you die today what ideas, what dreams, what abilities, what talents, what gifts, would die with you?

And if there is some action you can take to act on your ideas, dreams, abilities, talents and gifts – why are you still waiting?

The #1 Reason People Give Up On Their Dreams

Do you know the #1 reason people give up on their dreams?  Do you know why so many people never even start, never even take a single step towards accomplishing their dreams?

Fear.

And what are we afraid of?  We’re afraid we’ll fail. We’re afraid we won’t make enough money. We’re afraid that people will laugh at us.

We’re afraid of all those things, and yet we don’t realize that the fear itself is paralyzing us, and causing our dreams to die with us.

How To Overcome That Fear

One key reason people fear acting on their dreams is they fear failure

But you’ve got to realize that Failure Is Not the Real Enemy.

The real enemy is that uncertainty that is  holding you back from taking any action at all.

When you fear failure, and end up with inaction you let time pass without even giving your self a chance to succeed.  You see, once you realize failure is not the real enemy – you understand that the true enemy is uncertainty.

With that, another tip I would suggest is define what that uncertainty is – and what your worst case scenario is.  In my article about overcoming fear, I discussed that one of the main things we actually fear is uncertainty in the worst case scenario.  So, if you can define your worst case scenario in a realistic way, rather than it being this giant unknown – you can start to understand what the true risk it.

And once you’re able to start taking action, once you’re able to start making progress on your goals:  you’ll be on your way to making sure your dreams, your hopes, your ideas live – and that they don’t die with you.
