
Various authors and speakers encourage writing down concrete goals, and use as evidence a study conducted on students in the 1979 Harvard MBA program. They point to the results of that study (where the 3 percent of written goal setters earned 10 times as much as the other 97 percent of the class combined) as proof and inspiration for students and readers.
The study has been quoted in seminars and books by Zig Ziglar, Anthony Robbins, Brian Tracy and many other motivational and personal development speakers – but is the study true, or an urban legend? Find out in this feature report.

In life we are constantly faced with challenges and opportunities that demand our attention. So often, we are given the chance to solve a problem or scratch an itch permanently with a single superior solution – and yet, we instead choose to limp along with subpar solutions.
What causes us to succumb to the worst acceptable solution? In this article I examine one particular instance where I constantly chose less idea solutions due to laziness, and the tendency to implement the least difficult, acceptable solution - which, very generally speaking, is also the worst.

Why? Our happiness is affected by the decisions we make and the solutions we implement. The action we take today will affect our happiness in the long run. Do we choose what will make us happier down the line, or happy in the present? Which is better, and which is the worst acceptable solution?

This video clip is of someone playing guitar and singing a song they love. Other people may play it better, but nobody enjoys it more. The song completely takes over his life for those few minutes, and I have no doubt he loves every second of it.
